Tuesday, March 8th is International Women's Day and we have work to do. This year's official International Women's Day theme, "#BreaktheBias, asks us all to imagine a more equal world — one where difference is celebrated, discrimination isn't tolerated, and where each of us, as individuals, are embraced and valued as the most authentic versions of ourselves. While this vision and the perseverance it will take to get us there might stem from the inequities women have faced — and continue to face — in an unequal world, the benefits illuminate a better world for each and every one of us regardless of gender. The call to #BreaktheBias is one that resonates deep within us all; it's time we begin to heed it.

We cannot think of a better place to begin this work than in the workplace where the distribution of power, opportunity and compensation continues to be an unjust one. This year we're teaming up with Women in Research (WIRe) to take these imbalances head-on with activation opportunities for Market Research professionals of all levels to take part in:

Directly Support Ukrainian Women in Research

As conflict rises in Ukraine, it is more important than ever to support our extended Market Research community members through this difficult time. WIRe and the ESOMAR Foundation have committed to directly supporting Ukrainian women in the MR field on International Women's Day and through the month of March. Your donations will be distributed by the ESOMAR Foundation directly to women in need — many of whom are facing impossible odds.

Shine the Spotlight on #WomeninResearch

International Women's Day is the perfect opportunity for companies to bring visibility to the incredible work being done by women today. Right-click (or long hold on mobile) the image above and add a photo of a woman in research that you feel deserves recognition from the industry. Be sure to tag @WomeninResearch and @ESOMAR so we can echo their achievements far and wide!

#BreaktheBias in 2022

Whether deliberate or unconscious, the bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough, action is needed to level the playing field. Are you in? Will you actively call out gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping each time you see it? Strike the IWD 2022 pose individually or with your whole team and share your #BreakTheBias image on social media using #IWD2022 #BreakTheBias to encourage further people to commit to helping forge an inclusive world.
