ESOMAR Council Elections
Rules applying to candidates and canvassing
No sitting member of the Council (except Past Presidents) may endorse election candidates, their endorsements may NOT go through official ESOMAR channels.
Representatives may support whomever they wish if they do NOT do so through ESOMAR channels.
ESOMAR channels include: ESOMAR email database / Directory / Networking tool / Centrally organised events / Locally organised events with ESOMAR time slots / MyESOMAR.
Official ESOMAR channels may only be used for promoting VOTING, not candidates.
None of the Amsterdam staff may endorse or publicise candidates.
For any events organised from Amsterdam centrally (and locally organised events with ESOMAR slots), if an electoral candidate for an officer position is included on the agenda, then all the candidates for that position should be included in the agenda, too, to ensure balance.
The canvassing period runs from the moment of the formal announcement of candidates until the closure of the voting, both of which will be communicated in writing.
Canvassing is allowed through any non-ESOMAR channel, direct or indirect I,f all privacy / GDPR rules are respected and obeyed. (ESOMAR channels are defined above in Point 3).
This implies that the ESOMAR directory and membership messaging system cannot be used for canvassing. Social media, personal relationships, owned or available contact details, or other public information may be used as a basis for canvassing.
The frequency and tone of canvassing is up to the candidates to decide, within the limits of what can be expected of ESOMAR members in good standing.
If complaints are made to the election committee or its members, the election committee will deliberate and decide on possible sanctions (including the potential exclusion of a candidate) based on the evidence at hand.
All decisions of the Elections Committee are final – and have been agreed to in the candidate application form.
Election process
The Elections Committee has appointed an independent, specialised organisation to conduct the elections, thereby guaranteeing that the elections remain impartial and benefit from the best available expertise.
The election of the President and Council will both be held using proportional representation, i.e. where the voters rank the candidates in order of preference. All ESOMAR members with voting rights will be invited to take part.
To improve the proportional representation of Membership, a procedure based on the Single Transferable Vote (STV) will be used. This gives every voter the fullest freedom of choice between candidates seeking election while ensuring that none of their voting power is diminished.
Council has taken the utmost care to ensure high participation in voting and that the elections are held in a transparent, democratic and fair way. Ballot forms will be emailed to all paid-up ESOMAR members with the membership category 'Full Individual' and 'Key', in February. The election will be carried out online only.
ESOMAR is pleased to announce the nominees for the Council 2025-2028 as approved by the Election Committee. Canvassing by candidates is authorised from 20 January until 16 February.
ESOMAR Members approved before voting opens and in good standing (fully paid and with full voting rights) may vote during the voting period from 3 February until 16 February. Please log into MyESOMAR to check your voting rights.
The results will be announced on 24 February.

I believe that "Members Matter" is more than just a phrase - it's the guiding principle that ensures every voice, perspective, and contribution can spark innovation and progress. My vision for an even more vibrant and inclusive ESOMAR community, both globally and locally, revolves around three core pillars:
Member Centricity I am committed to launching initiatives that celebrate each member's unique expertise, enriching our collective knowledge and ensuring every viewpoint is fully acknowledged.
Member Participation I will create more opportunities for meaningful networking and active involvement, helping members connect, collaborate, and discover new avenues for growth and synergy.
Member Co-Creation I aim to foster a collaborative environment where we engage directly with clients, tackle critical issues such as ethics and emerging trends, and shape future strategies that truly add value to our entire research ecosystem.
Moreover, I will emphasize the importance of the human factor in research, alongside the ethical use of AI. We need clear guidelines to ensure AI remains a supportive ally-never a replacement for genuine, authentic insight. In Human We Trust must guide every aspect of our work as researchers. By championing each member's voice and focusing on human-centered solutions, I am confident that we can strengthen ESOMAR as a hub of innovation and inclusivity. I look forward to working hand in hand with you to make these ambitions a reality.
Activities
A defining aspect of my professional identity is the longstanding membership in ESOMAR. Having been a member for 30 years, I have consistently upheld ESOMAR's ethical standards and best practices, reflecting my deep commitment to data integrity and participant welfare. However, my relationship with ESOMAR goes beyond mere membership:
ESOMAR Commettee (2007) at the Conference on Qualitative Research held in Milan, dedicated to the value and meaning of Consumer Insights
ESOMAR Representative for Italy (2017-2021): During my tenure as a Representative for Italy, I devoted lot of time in organizing local events to build a stronger research community. I introduced initiatives like Business Speed Dates in Milan and Rome, intended to bring researchers and industry professionals together in a quick, impactful networking format. I also championed Small Data Days in Milan and Rome, as well as ESOMAR On Tour stops in Naples and Bari, facilitating knowledge-sharing across different region, with the active collaboration of Esomar members living in that areas.
Best Representative Award in Developed Countries (2018): In recognition of my enthusiasm, commitment, and effective community-building, ESOMAR named me Best Representative in Developed Countries in 2018 during its annual Congress in Berlin. This accolade highlights my passion for innovative event design, broad inclusivity and fostering dialogue between researchers, young practitioners and research buyers.
My reputation as a trailblazer in the field of qualitative research has been underscored by multiple distinctions over the years. Among the most notable is my recognition by Insight250 for two consecutive years as a pioneer and innovator in the research industry. This honor is awarded to professionals who exhibit leadership, creativity, and substantial impact in the domain of insights, market research and data analytics.
Education
My education and professional activities can be summed up as follows:
1. Solid Academic Foundations I began my journey as a Social Psychologist, building expertise in cognitive processes, group dynamics, social influence, and qualitative methods. This strong academic grounding sharpened my critical thinking and "active listening" skills, which I now love passing on to the next generation of researchers.
2. Early Professional Growth at Market Dynamics International Working with the esteemed Clara Origlia exposed me to diverse industries and complex client demands. Here, I learned that great qualitative research relies on more than methodology; it demands genuine curiosity, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to forge authentic connections.
3. Co-Founding Libra Research In 1995, I co-founded Libra Research with Claudia Paschini. Managing national and international projects across sectors - from FMCG to technology - allowed me to hone my moderation skills, explore innovative techniques, and develop an extensive network of corporate clients.
4. Establishing ALMAR QUALITY RESEARCH Founded in 2013, ALMAR (Active Listening Market And Research) reflects my commitment to in-depth understanding of people's realities, combining qualitative and quantitative insights. With a client-centric approach, we deliver strategies that spark real change in marketing, social research, and beyond.
5. Methodological Versatility and Innovation Driven by continuous learning, I integrate Coaching, Positive Psychology, and LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® into research.
This multifaceted approach fosters creativity, problem-solving, and deeper connections-demonstrating that qualitative research can be engaging, empowering, and transformative.
Other
Alongside my work as a qualitative researcher, I pursue several initiatives that emphasize human connection and collective well-being.
From 2018 to 2019, I promoted Social Almar, focusing on personal and professional wellness. The first events took place at Portineria 14, a public pub in Milan, before moving to the Casa della Psicologia, supported by the Ordine degli Psicologi della Lombardia. These gatherings provided tips and best practices for living a more fulfilled life, spotlighting the crucial link between professional success and personal balance. I also founded TAMTAMING in 2022, the first Italian community for independent expert researchers. Its mission: fostering collaboration, mutual support, and greater visibility, all while raising public awareness of research's strategic importance. Since 2022, I have been a member of the Fondazione Ampioraggio, a network of professionals working on open innovation, smart cities and citizens, capacity building, internal areas and small towns, and sustainable communities. In 2023, I began collaborating with Radio BlaBla Network to "give a voice to those who don't have one." Two programs address this aim: one focuses on Gen Z, featuring experts such as coaches and psychotherapists alongside young guests who bring their voices on relevant themes, while the other spotlights the revitalization of small towns through interviews with local administrators who share their past, present, and future visions, underlying the role of the community and the need for initiatives able to create social connections, enhance the value of the territory and of its resources which can be cultural, artistic, natural. These activities underscore my commitment to human-centered collaboration, both in research and beyond-uniting diverse voices, promoting personal development, and driving innovative solutions for our evolving world. This is how I connect the dots, guided by my mission of being a "connector."

Dharmendra Jain
Founder & CEO, Actnable AI Ltd, KenyaStatement
Hello Everyone! I am Dharmendra Jain, founder and CEO of Actnable AI, Current ESOMAR Council Member, and former Operations Director of Kantar (West, East and Central Africa). Two years ago, with your support, I had this great opportunity to serve the industry through the ESOMAR council, and this has been the most rewarding and fulfilling experience for me. There are three areas which stood out for me in terms of my direct contributions
1. Supporting ESOMAR's AI initiatives, such as leading the AI Taskforce, AI community circles, hosting AI Tools Demo Day, and bringing AI knowledge, case studies, and topics among industry leaders and practitioners.
2. Pushing ESOMAR's regional agenda, for example, ESOMAR's "Africa plans."
3. Contributions towards reviewing ISO standards as a part of the ESOMAR ISO review committee. These opportunities greatly inspired and encouraged me to continue to serve. Here, I am seeking another ESOMAR Council Member term as I think a lot still needs to be done.
My candidacy pitch is based on these three very important points:
1. To make ESOMAR AI Taskforce a reliable and preferred source for AI guidance and knowledge on practical AI applications, with a responsible AI framework towards catalysing industry growth by AI.
2. To continue with my strong advocacy and efforts to make ESOMAR reach local, including small markets.
3. To ensure ESOMAR's members get full value by accessing ESOMAR's global network, user experience with ESOMAR's channels, and knowledge and guidance about upcoming technologies, innovations, and methods. I am looking forward to your support for my candidacy. If given a chance, I will work even harder to ensure that ESOMAR continues leading the industry voice and providing its members full value. Many thanks for your kind support and time.
My best wishes,
Dharmendra Jain (DJ)

I've been a member of the market research and insights community for over 20 years, with my first Esomar Congress coming in Amsterdam in 2011. During that time, I have been lucky enough to work for a range of businesses within our sector; research agencies, consulting firms, online panel companies and more recently Research Technology (ResTech) businesses. I describe myself as a "generalist": I'm fluent across many functions of a business including both commercial and finance, and I now spend my time using these skills to support a range of startups and growth companies at the advanced technology / AI end of our sector, as well as working at board level for non-profit organisations. Like many of us, I can see that there are big, rapid changes coming through the adoption of AI. Naturally, there will be protagonists and sceptics, and there will be successes and challenges, but overall I expect to see a big change to our eco-system, and therefore to the workforce of people that call Market Research home. We risk becoming an "aging industry": unattractive to the next generation of workforce, and increasingly slow to evolve, and the coming years will be significant in how that plays out. As our leading global industry body, it's therefore important that Esomar helps to lead us all through these changes and challenges, and I am therefore applying to the Esomar Council for the coming term. I now have the relevant experience and background to add value to our community; both in the general "big picture" sense, but also in the financial sense. I currently serve as a board Treasurer for a non-profit and I would also like to take up the role of VP and Treasurer for Esomar. Most importantly, I also now have the time and the desire to "give back" to a community that has served me so well throughout the course of my career, and hopefully, I can be part of an industry body that will serve others equally well in the future.

During my four years as President of SAIMO, we achieved significant milestones that allowed us to grow our membership through relevant initiatives such as resuming training programs, webinars, and agreements with institutions like IAB, universities, and other data, e-commerce, and advertising associations. I aim to amplify these achievements to enhance the prominence of our industry, integrate various regions, communicate the importance of our work, and engage young professionals. I see an opportunity to continue contributing to the growth of our industry from this role on the Council. As a researcher and during my tenure as President of SAIMO, I have always focused on supporting the evolution of our industry at both local and regional levels, fostering knowledge articulation and collaborative work. In my media appearances, I strive to demonstrate how the insights from our work are actionable for businesses while also adhering to ethical standards, especially in an era where ethical dilemmas increasingly demand clear positions and guidelines. I am a widely renowned expert in the marketing/data science space, with a track record for innovation and excellence. I am a regular contributor to both ESOMAR & MRS - volunteering, conference papers, publications and training. I joined the ESOMAR Council four years ago. During this 2nd term of office, I have served as Treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee. As such, I have been deeply involved with the strategic direction and oversight of the organization. In terms of our financial position, in the last 2 years we have returned ESOMAR to a solid basis. In 2023, we reduced the financial deficit experienced in previous years. And in 2024 we expect to return a positive result, with a small operating profit. In addition, our asset portfolio has increased by over 600k in the last 2 years. We have restructured staffing in the Amsterdam office, creating a dedicated Members Services team and a separate Operational team. The aim is to enhance service to members whilst also increasing efficiency. We have also created a dedicated Ambassador for LATAM. And we have exciting plans for increased activities in both Asia & Africa. Our plans for 2025 are extensive, including 3 key projects Digital transformation: we need to improve the digital experience of ESOMAR for members, staff and non-members alike. We will improve usability and efficiency across all our platforms, including the ESOMAR website, ANA (knowledge base) and MyEsomar. We also plan to deliver a range of new digital products. Expansion of the membership offering: we will be launching a number of new events such as the ESOMAR Citizen Insights Summit in Brussels and the Asia Pacific Tour. Diversification of revenue streams: we need to provide more financial stability and less reliance on membership fees alone. This will include creating new events such as an Awards Gala, more dedicated CEO events and an expansion of the ESOMAR Academy.
